The 48th International Budapest Bridge Festival: A Global Celebration Powered by LoveBridge One

The vibrant city of Budapest once again played host to the prestigious International Budapest Bridge Festival (IBBF) in May 2024. This year, the 47th edition of the event saw a remarkable increase in participation, with players from 4 continents and 15 countries in total coming together for almost a week-long celebration of bridge.

In addition to the usual events one of the highlights of this year’s festival was the Friday night wine tasting event, where players had the opportunity to indulge in the rich and diverse flavours of Hungarian wines.

The competition itself was fierce, with players showcasing their strategic prowess and tactical brilliance on the LoveBridge tablets. The archives of the tournament are available on our vugraph site, allowing everyone from around the world to review the exciting hands that unfolded during the event.

LoveBridge Makes History at the 2025 World Bridge Championship in Denmark

The World Bridge Championship, held in Herning, Denmark from 20 to 31 August 2025, delivered two weeks of thrilling play, global camaraderie, and unforgettable competition. With four parallel categories—Open, Women, Mixed, and Senior—each fielded 24 elite national teams battling for world titles, the event represented the pinnacle of international bridge.

But this year’s edition will be remembered for more than world champions. For the first time in the history of the World Bridge Championship, the entire event—across all categories, all matches, all boards—was conducted using the LoveBridge bid+score system. This technological milestone redefined how the championship operated, offering new levels of accuracy, transparency, and competitive integrity.

Each of the four categories began with a demanding six-day round robin, where all 24 teams fought for one of the coveted eight knockout spots. The top eight teams in each category advanced to the quarterfinals, and the knockout stages brought high-stakes drama to the Danish championship halls.

Players not advancing to the knockout rounds were given the opportunity to join the Transnational World Teams Championship, now one of the most diverse and vibrant competitions in world bridge. This event welcomed mixed-authority teams, allowing players from different nations and categories to form new partnerships and continue their championship run. Once again, every board was played on LoveBridge, making scheduling, seating, and scoring effortless even across a shifting field of teams.

Alongside the transnational event, the World Championship hosted a Board-a-Match tournament as an additional consolation option. Its fast tempo and razor-thin scoring margins made BAM the perfect contrast to the long knockout sessions.

The 2025 World Bridge Championship set a new benchmark—not only in competition but in infrastructure. LoveBridge is proud to have supported this historic tournament and to help shape the future of the global game.

LoveBridge Powers a Record-Breaking 2nd Week at the 2025 European Transnational Bridge Championships in Poznań

The 11th European Transnational Bridge Championships, held in the vibrant Polish city of Poznań from 21 June to 5 July 2025, brought together more than a thousand players from across the globe for two spectacular weeks of world-class bridge. Organized by the European Bridge League, this biennial festival embodies the heart of transnational bridge—open to everyone, highly competitive, and filled with the joy of the game.

The city of Poznań proved a warm and welcoming home for the Championships. Its combination of modern facilities, rich cultural history, and easy accessibility made it a perfect host for the event. The tournament halls were buzzing not just with competitive energy, but with a sense of progression. Many players voiced their appreciation for how modernized the event felt, while still maintaining every aspect of the tradition and integrity of high-level bridge.

During the first week of the event, players of the Mixed and Senior categories competed for the European Championship title. After a Swiss segment, the teams continued in a knockout playoff. Those who did not make it to the top could choose to compete in a BAM or a pairs tournament together with the newly joined players.

This year marked a special milestone not only for the Championships, but also for the evolution of digitally assisted bridge.
During the intense second-week playoffs and parallel consolation tournaments for the Open and Women’s categories, a record number of 776 LoveBridge tablets were simultaneously in play, the largest single deployment of LoveBridge technology ever used at a major international event.

LoveBridge at the 17th European Small Federations Games and Contra Cup in Bucharest

Innovation meets tradition in the heart of Romania

The 2025 European Small Federations Games brought players, coaches, and fans from across the continent to Bucharest for three days of intense competition, camaraderie, and celebration of the game we all love. Hosted in one of Europe’s most vibrant capitals, the event showcased not only top-level bridge but also the continued evolution of digital tournament management—an area where LoveBridge proudly played a supporting role.

This year’s championship highlighted the spirit of smaller federations whose dedication keeps bridge thriving across Europe. Despite their size, these federations contribute enormously to the growth of the game, and the Bucharest edition once again demonstrated their ability to deliver high-quality, exciting, and inspiring competition. After a close battle between the 16 participating teams, the Lithuanian national team took home the winners’ trophy.

However, the bridge events did not end at Caro Hotel Bucharest: immediately after the Small Federations Games, the Contra Cup began, which was held on the LoveBridge system for the first time this year. LoveBridge bid+score was used in the knockout stage for the best 16 teams in the team tournament as well as in the final of the pairs tournament.

TBF Winter Team Championship Knockouts

LoveBridge made its debut in Türkiye at this year’s TBF Winter Team Championships, which took place in March in Bursa. From round 16 of the knockout stage of the prestigious event, teams competed on LoveBridge One for qualification and the title of the final winner. The three days of broadcasting attracted thousands of spectators from Türkiye and all over the world. Results and matches can be reviewed at LoveBridge vugraph.

In February 2025, the Turkish Bridge Federation signed an agreement with LoveBridge to have unlimited use of the system in its own tournaments for an annual fee. After evaluating the needs and conditions of the venues, with TBF’s Head of Referee Committee Kaan Aydin we decided to run the system on a local server. This offers a great flexibility to ensure a continuous and smooth service in different locations, even with occasional intermittent internet access. A LoveBridge staff member travelled to Ankara to assist with the onboarding, training the local operators in a test run. The first live use at the Winter Championship was already conducted independently, with remote assistance available from LoveBridge to resolve any issues that may arise.

Building on the success of the first tournament, the next tournaments with LoveBridge will be at the TURKON Summer Bridge Championship in Antalya, the TURKON TBF Women and Open Championships between 28 April and 2 May 2025.

2nd European Transnational Winter Championships in Prague

From February 14 to 20 2025, the charming city of Prague hosted the 2nd European Transnational Winter Championships. Organized by the European Bridge League (EBL), this event not only highlighted remarkable talent but also became the second largest tournament ever held with the LoveBridge system.

Held at the Top Congress Hotel Prague, the WTC featured an impressive lineup of teams, making it the largest LoveBridge tournament in terms of participating teams in one category.

Alongside the main championship, the BAM Trophy provided an exciting five-day consolation event for teams who dropped out from the main event to demonstrate their prowess and compete for medals.

A particularly noteworthy aspect of this championship was the consistent publication of results on both our Vugraph site and the EBL’s website. For those eager to analyse the matches, selected games were broadcast through our innovative LBO system, offering real-time insights into the gameplay. Many of the matches have featured live, written commentary from US player and frequent bridge commentator Al Hollander.

The competition was intense, but in the end, the ZIMMERMANN team triumphed in the main championship, defending their title. Meanwhile, the RUBENSTEIN team secured victory in the BAM consolation event. Congratulations to both teams for their outstanding performances!

’24 Sam Amer Junior USBC

The 2024 Sam Amer Junior United States Bridge Championship (SAJUSBC) took place in Atlanta from December 27 to January 2, coinciding perfectly with the winter holiday season. This year’s tournament was a unique blend of competition and training, offering young bridge players a chance to showcase their skills and improve their game.

The challenge for the national team title featured four categories. The players of the Under 26 and Under 21 categories played in team events, while the players of the Under 26 Women and Under 16 categories competed in IMP pairs events.

The tournament began with a round-robin format for the team events, followed by a series of knockout rounds. In the end, two teams from each category were selected to represent the USA at the 2025 World Youth Bridge Team Championships. Congratulations to teams Kolesnik (USA1) and Wan (USA2) in the U26 category and to teams Silverstein (USA1) and Ge (USA2) in the U21 category for qualifying!

In the Pairs tournaments, the top 3-3 pairs after 8 rounds have been selected as fix pairs for the 2025 WYBTC. Congratulations to the U26W winners Cecilia Ehrlichman & Katie Hwang, 2nd place Nicole Qiang & Helen Chow and 3rd place Sharon Chu & Ella Su and the U16 Pairs winners Andrew Chen & Jeff Xiao, 2nd place Adam Hemmer & Kate Lee and 3rd place Kevin Wei & Arjun Chaunal. In both categories three additional players will be selected for the WYBTC and the 6 pairs will be assigned to teams by a selection committee.

A standout feature of the 2024 SAJUSBC was the incorporation of a training camp before the competition. Every participant was guaranteed two days of intensive training, followed by at least 1.5 to 2 days of competitive play. This format not only enhanced the players’ skills but also provided a crucial opportunity for them to learn from experienced mentors and peers.

Champions’ Cup in Boario Terme

With 12 teams in the Open and 10 teams in the Women’s category, the 22nd European Champions’ Cup and the 2nd European Women Champions’ Cup took place in the Congress Centre of the picturesque town of Boario Terme in the North Italian lakeland.

Again, the LoveBridge Bid+Score system was used during the whole championship where after a 2-day round robin a third day of knock-out playoffs decided on the final rankings.

On top of showing all bids and results from every table, 2 matches of every round had live broadcasts exclusively on the LoveBridge vugraph, that was brought forward with our new operator application and the vugraph operators sitting by each of the four streamed tables. The broadcasts were presented for the local audience with live commentary by the Italian top player, Giorgio Duboin.

Video commentary was also available at two matches, thanks to some enthusiastic players from Hungary who were doing commentary in Hungarian on both vugraph matches of their women’s team.

World Bridge Games in Buenos Aires

The 16th World Bridge Games took place in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires from 22 October to 3 November. 41 countries’ top bridge players showcased their skills in Open, Women, Senior and Mixed categories for the ultimate title.

After the first six days of round-robin qualifications, the play-offs with 16 participants in each series began on LoveBridge Bid+Score. The seven-day play-off, starting with 64 teams and 256 players, was supported by our colleague Dániel Bakó on the spot. The live results showing all the auctions could be followed both on LoveBridge vugraph and the championships’ microsite.

On the Lovebridge vugraph, it was also possible to follow a match live in each session. This was thanks to the use of the LoveBridge Vugraph Operator (see more HERE) app, and not least to the operators working on site, who recorded the cards played during the game on the dedicated interface. There were also matches where live text commentary was available for the spectators. The matches to be broadcast on the day were selected by the organisers from among the most exciting matches on the day based on the results. In the two-day final, we were able to follow the gold medal match in the Senior category, where the USA and India teams competed against each other, with Zia Mahmood among the players.

The event was once again a great success, thanks in part to the smooth running of the LoveBridge system. Congratulations to the winning teams, and we look forward to preparing for next year’s WBF competitions!
